That's why I decided to take this brownie to the next level and the results in this batter which came out super moist and delicious!
The brownies can be frosted or left plain or even garnished with crushed malted milk ball candy on top for a crunchy topping.
The all-made from scratch batter is buttery delicious with unsweetened melted chocolate added, just a few steps and it surely is worth the extra steps over a boxed brand.
There is nothing better than a chocolate malt milkshake from the 1950s and these brownies will bring you down memory lane.
Brownies
These brownies are so simple to make and amazing plus it's the first recipe I ever made at age 11 when I got my first cookbook.
I just loved the flavors in this as it reminded me of that favorite soda shop treat in my shake but in a decadently rich brownie.
The recipe originally didn't have the malted milk powder, I just decided to try it and loved it, however, you can leave that ingredient out and leave this batter plain.
Check out the tips and suggestions below for other additions and a frosting suggestion.
Other Additions
- (add 1/2 cup of any of these):
- chopped candy bars to the batter
- add mini marshmallow, chocolate chips, and nuts
- peanut butter chips are a great addition without the malted milk powder
- add mint or another flavor chocolate chip but omit the malted milk powder
- add 1 teaspoon of expresso with 2 teaspoons of hot water to dissolve with the eggs omit the malted milk powder
- top with my peanut butter filling as a frosting
Tips
- do not over mix the batter
- make sure the batter is completely cooled before adding the eggs and the rest of the ingredients
- chocolate and butter can be melted on the stovetop
- if you don't cool this completely you will have pieces of scrambled egg in the batter THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
