Mom's Old Fashioned Apple Biscuit Dessert with Caramel Sauce Recipe

Friday, September 7, 2012

Mom made the simplest dessert, always from scratch. This is one we made often come fall, we always had an abundance of New York State apples for Twin Orchards in New Hartford N.Y. She made the best pies, cakes and dessert with those. Fond memories, hope you enjoy her recipe~! We never really had a name for this one. Can you name it? Maybe you remember a recipe like this one growing up.

a biscuit with apples and a caramel sauce on top with whipped cream

6-8 baking apples peeled, sliced and cored (McIntosh preferred)
Place apples in a greased 13x9 baking dish

1 cup sugar
1 cup water boil for 10 minutes
Pour boiling syrup over apples in the greased pan.

In a large bowl mix together to form a soft dough below:

3 teaspoons baking powder

Drop by tablespoons on top of apples. Melt together 3 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon or more if you like .

Pour teaspoons of mixture over dumplings and bake at 400 degree preheated oven

  11. Similar to apple cobbler. The caramel and whipped cream topping must take it over the top in deliciousness. Your Mom knew what tasted good. My eldest son loves apple anything but is not really a dessert fan when it comes to anything else. Geesh, he doesn't even like chocolate that much. LOL
