This Egg in the hole has become the favorite in our homes.

These eggs are cooked in the middle of cutout bread which has a grilled taste and really tasty!

My first time I really thought this tasted like grilled cheese but there's an egg in the middle!

These are the perfect solution to any all in one breakfast and the whole family loves them.

Some Fun Names Eggs in a Hole are called by Others

When I added this one to Instagram, I had so many comments on how they remembered this as a kid and loved eggs in a hole, that's what we called them.

However, as my children were growing up, eggs in a hole were called something different by many of their friends and family members.

Most Restaurants had this breakfast on their menu and were called eggs in a hole.

I decided to take a poll on what this breakfast was called by others.

Here are just a few that were the most popular:

Some called them "Eggs in a basket", another called this "Birdie in a nest" and last I saw was a "One-eyed Texan".

The winner and number 1, was "Toad in a Hole"!

That was just to name the top ones!

Tips for making Eggs in a Hole

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and melt in the butter.
  2. You can use any kind of cookie-cutter for the center or appetizer cutter (small for the center)
  3. When the butter is all spread out, place the slice of cutout bread in the skillet and crack the egg straight into the center of the hole.
  4. Cook until the egg sets a bit on the bottom, 30 to 45 seconds.
  5. Sprinkle the egg with salt and pepper.
