3 Ingredient Asian Orange Sauce

This is a shortcut for a quick family dinner on those busy weeknights and a popular Chinese mall favorite using just 3 ingredients for Asian Orange Sauce.

If you love takeout or that quick mall food for lunch then you'll love the flavors in this simple recipe using barbecue sauce and orange marmalade.

Since we are big fans of sweet Asian-flavored chicken, the coating on this is what makes the recipe perfect and we also provide that all made from scratch fried chicken coating.

The flour/cornstarch mixture is the perfect coating to absorb the yummy orange marmalade sauce.

Actually, to cut even more time out of the recipe, you can buy chicken tenders, cut them up and no coating mixture and saute them in oil for around 4 minutes on each side.

This recipe is easy and certainly will free up more time to spend with the family, between frying the chicken and sauce it takes around 35 to 40 minutes for this delicious meal.

You can even make some rice and the sauce the night before and just reheat to cut some time since the 3 ingredients sauce takes around 20 minutes to simmer.

Easy Steps For Asian Orange Chicken and Sauce

  1. separate the coating in a plastic bag and the egg mixture in a bowl
  2. dip chicken pieces in egg mixture then shake in coating
  3. deep fry the chicken of choice set aside, and keep warm
  4. in a small saucepan combine all the sauce ingredients and simmer 20 minutes
  5. toss in with cooked meat in the sauce

  1. Make fried rice
  2. Make fast-cooking Minute Rice, jasmine rice, brown rice
  3. Frozen egg rolls or homemade egg rolls
  4. Use a frozen stir-frying vegetable combinations

Bake, Grill, or Air Fry Methods for Chicken

  • NOTE: Check the chicken to be at 165 degrees using a meat thermometer in the thickest part:
  • Baked: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the coated chicken on a greased baking sheet. Spray with cooking oil or drizzle with vegetable oil. Bake for 20 minutes stirring a few times
  • Grill: Soak the skewers first in water for at least 30 minutes. Thread uncoated chicken on the skewers and grill for 4 to 7 minutes on each side on a preheated grill. Use the sauce for dipping 
  • Air Fry: Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees and spray the basket with cooking oil.  Spray the chicken with cooking oil Air fry the chicken for 5 to 7 minutes.

  • vegetable or peanut oil
  • seasoning salt
  • flour and cornstarch
  • baking soda, baking powder
  • soy sauce
  • orange marmalade

Tips

  • cubed chicken is completed cooking quickly check the thickest part to be at 165 degrees using a meat thermometer if leaving larger pieces
  • steak bites, pork, or seafood can be substituted for chicken
  • for more spicy sauce add cayenne pepper and a pinch of ginger to taste
  • use regular seasoned bbq sauce
  • keep the chicken warm while frying the entire batch and until the sauce is done
  • to cut time do not coat chicken and just stir fry in oil
  • make your side dishes the night before and reheat to save time
  • serve with rice, stir-fried vegetables, fry rice, or cooked ramen noodles

Simple Marmalade Asian Orange Chicken

This orange sauce chicken is a spin-off for Chinese take-out meals. The sauce has a shortcut with just two ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 - boneless chicken breasts sliced and cut into bite-sized pieces (or 1-1/2 pounds boneless chicken you prefer)
  • Egg mixture for chicken:
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup ice cold water
  • Coating for chicken:
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon of a seasoning blend (we have several DIY seasoning recipes or use a store-bought kind)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying:
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying ( or peanut oil)
  • Orange Sauce
  • 1 cup orange marmalade
  • 1 cup bbq sauce
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Place the eggs in and bowl with water and whisk together.
  2. In a large ziplock bag, add all the coating ingredients, close the bag and shake together.
  3. Heat the oil to medium, heat ( around 2 -inches of oil in the pan).
  4. Place the chicken pieces in the egg mixture then toss in the bag to coat.
  5. Add the chicken pieces to the hot oil and fry all the pieces not crowding the pan.
  6. Place on paper towels to drain then keep the chicken warm.
  7. Add the marmalade, bbq sauce, and soy sauce in a small saucepan.
  8. Simmer this for 20 minutes.
  9. Toss the warm chicken into the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
