You can invite guests to make a house and get in the Christmas mood by just having a little inspired pre-Christmas party making these cute little houses.

They also make a nice gift for your work associates or even a child who you are really fond of.

Faces That Smile Are the Best!

I love how Christmas inspires everyone, it is the best time of the year.

Nothing is better than seeing a child face light up with pride in making something special.

This is an inspirational project for kids and families.

Christmas houses are fun, creative and delicious!

This Graham cracker house just happens to be easy too!

Making and decorating gingerbread houses has been a holiday tradition in our house since the kids were little.

In the early years, they were made with soda cartons and royal icing with unwrapped candies.

Gingerbread was never a favorite of mine or the kids and always went to waste, but these graham crackers easy to make houses were always devoured.

Though I usually refer to these as gingerbread houses, they’re technically graham cracker houses.

Even though these are a shortcut in preparation compared to their baked gingerbread counterparts, we’ve always thought these houses look every bit as festive and fun.

Things that didn't take so long were much more preferred to keep their attention.

You’ll need a few sleeves per house, since you may make a lot of mistakes, in the beginning, cutting them out with the kids.

You certainly will want to have enough crackers on hand.

Tips:

  • If you want to use canned frosting, mix it with lots of powdered sugar until its a thick enough glue paste.
  • Try and make stencils on the cuts to make it easier
  • Place the newspaper down to avoid a big mess
  • Use wrapped candy to preserve the house longer if making way ahead of time
  • Make sure the platform you're making it on is portable or has parchment paper underneath to easy remove
  • These houses were done by a 3-year-old with supervision, anyone can make them

Graham Cracker Houses

These are the most darling houses to make for friends and family and your little ones for the holiday season. Christmas is filled with joy and these will put a smile on anyone's face. Made easily with graham crackers, candy and frosting.

ingredients:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Hot Water
  • 2 packs graham crackers sleeves ( I use cinnamon crackers, I love the aroma!
  • Assorted candy
  • Cardboard can be used as a platform to make a bigger scene around the house
  • Optional: use canned frosting thickened with powdered sugar instead of what I prefer
  • NOTE: Look for small candies that are red and green. I used small chocolate rolls for the log cabin effect. Red and green chocolate covered nuts, candy canes, chocolate bars cut for doors and windows, red hots. Wrapped or unwrapped candy can be used.
  • Cookies can be used for a wreath, red hot candies, gumdrops, jelly beans look like Christmas lights.
  • Get creative! Cover cardboard with foil or color paper to put your house on top of and make a Christmas scene all around by adding other elements of Christmas like trees or snowman in the background and decorate the whole board with candy canes using frosting as the glue.

instructions:

How to cook Graham Cracker Houses

  1. First, you will need two full graham crackers and check out the video to see the cuts at a 45-degree angle to make a pitch, for the front and back. You will have two crackers with a pointed top for each side. Break one full cracker in half. Those will be the sides.
  2. In a medium bowl add 3 cups of powdered sugar to the bowl, add some hot water by teaspoonfuls until it makes a thick glue-like texture. Make more if needed later for any background scenes or whatever you decide to reinforce.
  3. Take the glue and start smearing it on to assemble the house gluing the sides together all four pieces, waiting 3 to 4 minutes in between to add another piece. Then wait at least 10 minutes to dry before adding the roof last. I usually let it dry around 2 hours before adding any candy. To keep the glue from drying out add a wet towel over the bowl.
  4. Once the house is assembled, I place 4 or more whole graham crackers on the surface of whatever platform I use with a little frosting glue on the bottom, then the crackers to hold in place Add the house on top and start decorating. Use frosting in between and cracks or fill it in wherever you want it to look like snow.
  5. Let it dry, if things slide you will need to make sure the frosting is thick and just move it back in place and hold it a few minutes to adhere. You are welcome to make royal icing which has egg whites in it, but I am not of fan of it so I just use a little water and powdered sugar.
  6. Tips: cut on the diagonal with a serrated knife with a sawing motion using a cutting board. Make sure you have wax paper on the bottom of whatever platform you use and don't forget to adhere that with frosting glue so it doesn't move. Be patient to let dry a few minutes in between gluing each piece.
  7. Enjoy making memories with your little ones out there!
  8. These make the best edible gifts for the Holiday Christmas season to be enjoyed.
