Hormel Recipes and Dexter Season 5

Friday, December 10, 2010
Since this Sunday is the finale of our favorite series Dexter Season 5, I just had to make this be our special get together with the family and make a event dinner for this occasion! Die hard fans (no pun intended) from Florida as the series is done in Miami, we are always making new menu's weekly for our get family and friends get together. Hormel and Foodbuzz was perfect timing for us..As we are faithful lovers of Dexter and Hormel Foods... Both of my sons cook and often use their Turkey pepperoni to make calzones and top homemade pizza's with. Ham and pineapple their favorite topping on pizza! So many endless possibilities, so we love any leftovers!

Getting ready for the last episode on Sunday, we decided to have a great dinner before the last night and watch some of the dvr's previous week episodes in anticipation for the finale night. Even though the Season 5 series is ending on December 12th, we will still have our weekly family get together dinners on Sunday night. We will just have to watch something else till the new season begins next year and make lots of new recipes using Hormel ham, bacon and pepperoni!

Thanks Hormel for this awesome Ham ! Cheers! We all really enjoyed it!

Glaze Recipe for Hormel Ham Recipe:

1 (6 to 8 pound) Hormel Cure 81 Spiral Sliced Half Ham

2 cups water, divided

1 cup loosely packed brown sugar

4 teaspoons cornstarch

1 can of chunk pineapple drained reserving juice to make one more cup by adding water

Preheat oven to 350°F. Place ham in shallow roasting pan. In large saucepan, combine glaze packet with 2 cups of water. Add brown sugar and heat over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Meanwhile, combine remaining water and juice with cornstarch. Add to brown sugar mixture and continue to simmer until mixture begins to thicken slightly. Pour half of the glaze over the ham. Bake for 1 hour; basting every 10-15 minutes. If the pan seems to be getting too dry, simply add a small amount of pineapple juice or water to the pan. After 1 hour turn oven off and let ham stand in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove ham from pan and let rest. Remove all excess drippings from the pan and add to the leftover glaze. Reheat glaze and serve with the ham.

Of course you can also use any  leftover ham in quiche, or use in breakfast  sandwiches , ham cheese ball ( see below)  or even ham and pineapple  topping for pizza!Turkey pepperoni is also wonderful  by itself or with cheese and crackers for a quick snack . Hope you enjoy the many products Hormel makes, again many thanks to them for letting me host this party with their amazing foods! Thank you and Happy New Year!

I think Dexter would approve of that menu. I love how in the credits he's cutting up food, just like he cuts up people, hahahaha :) PS you know it's not actually shot in Miami right? One of the many wonders of television! haha
