Frangelico Brownie Gelato Dessert

Thursday, April 8, 2010

I love Chocolate Gelato ( Italian frozen confection) and brownies, so this is two treats in one for me.
What can be better than a brownie, with dark chocolate chip creamy gelato, whipped cream and chocolate sauce? Saving the best part of this browni...... It has a shot of Frangelico on top, saturating the brownie.... ooooo it's so good!

I love homemade gelato. This done in a ice cream maker, comes out so smooth and very creamy.

You can use these tins, the bottom comes right out for easy removal of the cake, or make a large pan and cut into square.

Dark Chocolate Brownies
2 squares( 1-oz each) unsweetened chocolate melted in microwave or over hot water
1/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup all purpose flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon vanilla
Mix all ingredients together until well blended, around 50 strokes by hand. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes in 8x8 greased pan, or make mini muffin cups, fluted removeable bottom pans shown above for individual desserts or brownie pan. Recipe can easily be doubled. When cool, you can also frost these if not making the whole dessert.

Double Chocolate Chip Gelato (Makes about 3 cups)
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
pinch of salt
2 cups whole milk, divided
5 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup shaved, slivered or chunk good grade chocolate (godiva, lindt) semi sweet or bitter sweet dark chocolate.

In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add 1/4 cup milk, whisking to dissolve cornstarch. Whisk in remaining milk. Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Allow to boil for 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Add chocolate and allow to sit for 1 minute. Sit until chocolate is melted and smooth. Transfer mixture to a medium bowl. Mix in the cream and vanilla, fold in chocolate shaving. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Transfer to an ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer's directions.

1 shot of Frangelico
whipped cream in a can
1 scoop of double chocolate chip gelato
brownie squares
chocolate fudge sauce (sub Frangelico for Kahlua in this recipe)
Place brownie on a pretty plate, sprinkle with a shot of Frangelico, top with a scoop of chocolate gelato, garnish with whipped cream and drizzle with chocolate sauce.

  5. My, My, My, that sure looks good, No it looks great. But I have one question. In the recipe it talks about 2 squares of Unsweetened Chocolate, How much by weight are you referring to? See I buy my chocolate in 11lb blocks or bricks, and I measure out everything by weight. so if you could give me a reference to work from. This dessert looks out of this world, great job.
