Grilled Outdoor Deep Dish Chicago Style Pizza

Tuesday, April 6, 2010
An easy to make pizza that everyone will love...deep dish style. The crust is very thick, crisp and amazing enough to taste just like you had Chicago style pizza right in your own backyard....a grilling favorite in our household. The kids are going to love this one~ You can make individual personal pan pizza's with smaller size pans or one large.....get creative with toppings. The skies the limit~
Deliciously baked thick crust pizza.

Just add your favorite toppings~

1 store bought or homemade dough
olive oil
favorite jar sauce or homemade marinara or my favorite Don Pepino from N.J online pizza sauce
assorted favorite topping:
sliced peppers, sausage, pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, eggplant
assorted favorite cheeses shredded: provolone, mozzarella, parmesan, romano, cheddar, feta, fontina
1 cast iron round pan or heavy duty pie plate shaped pan for a personal size pizza.
Place 1/2 of a pound of dough into a heavily olive oiled(or use crisco) round pie plate or cast iron skillet. Let rise till double in size.
Add sauce on top, toppings of choice and shredded cheeses. On a low to medium heat setting, preheated hot outdoor grill, place pizza on the grill and grill till the edges are browned and crispy, you have to watch this closely as it cooks quickly. I believe it was 20 to 25 minutes. The crust will be very crispy, if you want this softer crust you will have to cover this with aluminum foil and it will stay moist and more doughy. The crust comes out very crisp due to the direct high heat content and very delicious. Cool for around 8 minutes before serving as it will be very hot....enjoy~

  1. Looks amazing...and what a good idea, never thought about using a cast iron skillet on the grill :)

  2. I remember going to Uno's when younger and thinking I was the bomb-diggity. I love the idea of using a cast iron. Will try for sure!

  3. That is a great idea Claudia! Ive got a big cast iron skillet that would work perfectly for this. I will definately be giving this a try when I get back from my trip.

  4. Definitely a good idea to do this. Summer grilling is not just about meat anymore!
