Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

These Homemade Cinnamon Rolls are the ultimate Cinnamon bun!

They are soft tender full of delicious buttery cinnamon filling and with a touch of cream cheese drizzled frosting over the top.

In my family's opinion (and mine), these are the best cinnamon rolls on the planet, but we will let you be the judge!

We use to go to the mall years ago and get a cinnabon bun which is a clone for sure!

Those were served warm and gooey and the kids loved them.

They were so excited to taste that long ago memory in this copycat recipe!

You can even choose another filling I also added to the recipe that we love, filled with orange marmalade in the rolls.

The perfect breakfast or any time comfort food.

We just love the smell, it's hard to wait until they are cooled off to eat them and we always end up burning the roof of our mouth because we just can't wait!

These are great with any hot beverage like coffee, tea or hot cocoa.

You may remember my yeast-risen recipes like my Almond Filled Coffee Cake Recipe or my Amaretto Pannetone, two more of my delicious homemade breakfast treats.

Easier Than You Think Recipe!

These rolls aren't hard to make at all.

If you follow a few basic tips, they will be perfect every time!

The rising dough is tricky if you kill the yeast, so pay close attention to the water and milk temperatures.

Below you will find the fool-proof simple techniques to perfect sweet roll dough.

The Frosting For Cinnamon Rolls

You can use any kind of frosting you like, even canned, I provide the cream cheese frosting below we love in the recipe card.

For the best results, always drizzle the frosting on the cinnamon buns while warm.

Rise, Roll, Fill and Slice

I usually slice them between 2 to 3 inches with a very sharp floured knife.

You can make them as big or small as you prefer.

Always cover them and let them rise in a warm place, I usually turn my oven on to preheat it until they double in size, around 30 minutes after slicing.

Use a towel or plastic wrap to ensure no drafts get into the pan while rising.

Rolling the Dough

The dough is not firm, it's a sticky dough but not wet.

When the dough rises you will need to flour the board to roll out, this will keep the dough from being too sticky to roll up.

Remember not to overwork the dough with flour or they will not be tender and become dry.

Tips

  • Milk and water need to be about 105 degrees, if it's too hot it kills the yeast
  • Soften the butter and eggs to room temperature so it is soft and mixes in easily.
  • Place the dough in a warm place covered with plastic wrap or towel to eliminate drafts
  • The dough will be a little tacky, do not add too much flour
  • Always preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Sweet Roll dough is basic and can be used for dinner rolls and other favorite fillings
  • Let rise for at least 30 minutes after slicing the rolls
  • Rolls are best served warm, reheat 10 seconds in the microwave

Not A Cinnamon Bun Fan?

If you love cinnamon rolls like cinnabon or any kind of filled breakfast rolls, these are over the top delicious, this recipe for you.

However, there are so many ways to use this easy recipe and adapt it to what you prefer.

These are a little work but the compliments I get are my reward and so worth the time.

The dough is so versatile and I usually split in half and make two kinds.

The Orange Marmalade Filling or Almond solo Filling can be a perfect alternative for those who aren't fond of cinnamon rolls.

I love the Orange rolls and very refreshing in the summertime here in Florida.

Using this sweet roll dough for dinner rolls is also a family favorite as I suggested and goes great with any meal.

Whatever you decide to make with this sweet roll dough, I promise they will be addicting!
