Kids Love These!

Remember to cool them and use ice cream scoop, molds, and other protection with kids if the mixture is too hot to handle to be safe.

Wrap in a wax paper when molded into balls.

They keep fresh for around 3 days, so keep in mind fresh taste best.

Halloween Marshmallow Pumpkin Popcorn Balls

Prep time: 10 MinCook time: 5 MinTotal time: 15 Min
This is a recipe using popcorn and melted marshmallows and then molded into shapes for any party or holiday theme. These are a perfect kids project and fun to eat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unpopped popcorn approximately 8 cups of popped
  • Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Set aside
  • Popcorn options:
  • Microwave the popcorn, (stovetop version see note on bottom) or use a hot air popper or use store-bought pre-popped in a bag however it's very salty.
  • Marshmallow Recipe:
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 5 cups miniature marshmallows
  • Red and yellow food coloring (use 2 drops of red 3 drops of yellow) for natural food dye see Easter Egg Natural Food Dye
  • Optional flavoring: 1 or 2 cinnamon oil drops, orange extract, or any other flavor you like to add
  • Garnish for making the pumpkin:
  • mini tootsie rolls
  • eyeball candies
  • optional: sprinkles, melted chocolate to dip bottoms with nuts chopped candy corn, m & m for eyes, rolled in crushed cookies, or assorted color sprinkles.
  • Note: Also, I used green frosting to make leaves for the stem on the pumpkin but you can use green spearmint leaf or green gummy candy also.

Instructions

  1. Pop the corn and place in a 13 x 9 greased pan.
  2. Make whatever you like, air-popped, microwaved, or Old Fashioned on top of stove popcorn.
  3. The Marshmallow Recipe:
  4. Melt butter In a medium saucepan over low heat.
  5. Stir in orange food coloring(mixture of red and yellow) marshmallows and cook until melted, stirring constantly.
  6. Pour marshmallow mixture over popcorn and mix with a wooden spoon to coat evenly in the prepared pan.
  7. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  8. Make balls popcorn with your hands or form popcorn into 8 balls using a rounded glass container like the one in the photo shown.
  9. You also can make mini ones using an ice cream scooper, silicone molds, or even cookie cutters.
  10. I used a ceramic measuring cup to form mine.
  11. Add mini tootsie rolls and candy corn to decorate or whatever you like with the options above.
  12. I then let them cool completely and place into plastic sandwich bags and zip tie them to hand out of giving away.
  13. They stay fresh for 3 or 4 days.
  14. Keep in a cool dry place.
  15. Note: Making Old Fashioned Popcorn on Top of the Stove:
  16. Add vegetable oil to a 4-quart saucepan, and heat over high heat. When the oil is hot, add popping corn.
  17. Keep pan moving constantly.
  18. When corn stops popping, remove from heat.
  19. Put popcorn in a prepared pan.
