What does Tiramisu mean?

Tips for Making the Best Tiramisu
- Make It in Parfaits in Elegant Glassware for Faster Assembly: Layer the dipped ladyfingers and mascarpone cream in small glasses, jars, or dessert cups. Break or cut the ladyfingers into pieces so they fit easily. Parfaits chill faster, which means the flavors meld more quickly—ideal for last-minute holiday desserts. They also look elegant and festive with a sprinkle of cocoa or chocolate curls on top.
- Don’t Oversoak the Ladyfingers: A quick 1–2 second dip on each side in the coffee mixture is enough. Don't oversoak the lady fingers. That will make them mushy and can cause the layers to collapse.
- Keep the Cream Filling Cold: Cold heavy cream and mascarpone whip faster and create a thicker, more stable filling. If the mixture looks loose, refrigerate it for 10 minutes, then fold gently before layering.
- Add Holiday Garnishes: Dust the top with cocoa powder, then add: Shaved chocolate. Hot fudge sauce, Crushed candy canes. Chocolate-covered espresso beans, Fresh raspberries, or mint sprigs. These instantly make the dessert look “holiday-ready.”
- Kid-Friendly / No-Coffee Option: Dip ladyfingers in: Hot cocoa. Chocolate milk, Vanilla milk, Decaf coffee. Add mini chocolate chips between layers for extra fun.
- Peppermint Tiramisu: Add 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract to the cream filling. Dip ladyfingers in coffee mixed with a little hot cocoa. Top with crushed candy canes.
- Chocolate Lovers’ Tiramisu: Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to the mascarpone mixture. Dip ladyfingers in a mix of coffee and chocolate liqueur. op with chocolate curls.
- Gingerbread Holiday Tiramisu: Add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to the cream. Dip the ladyfingers in a mix of coffee and a touch of molasses or gingerbread syrup. Garnish with crushed gingerbread cookies.
- Substitute for Mascarpone: If you don’t have mascarpone on hand, Whip 1 (8 oz) block of softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup heavy cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Fold into the whipped cream mixture. It’s not traditional, but it works beautifully for quick tiramisu.
- Substitute for Ladyfingers: Sponge cake cut into strips, Pound cake slices, Vanilla wafers, Soft ladyfingers (soak even quicker!), Shortbread for a richer twist.
- Swap Coffee Liqueur: Amaretto, Rum, Kahlúa, Bailey’s Irish Cream, Frangelico
