  • 9-inch deep-dish pie crust homemade or store-bought
  • eggs
  • shredded cheese 
  • milk
  • granulated garlic powder
  • butter
  • flour
  • salt, pepper, and cayenne to taste
  • optional: add around 1/2 cup chopped cooked meats of any kind or vegetable, grated cheese




Tips


  • Cutting calories? This bakes perfectly crustless.
  • this can be made individually in a muffin pan
  • Use 2 % milk for less fat
  • You can use all egg whites if watching cholesterol
  • For meat eaters add any kind of chopped cooked meats you like
  • Topping with fresh basil and using mozzarella or provolone is the perfect Caprese quiche style 
  • Always spray the pie plate with cooking oil before adding pie crust.
  • Always preheat the oven first
  • Avoid too many additional vegetables that are water-filled or this will be soggy limit them to around 1/2 cup of mixed

Basic cheese savory pie with or without additions added.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces of extra sharp cheddar cheese shredded more for the top
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 4 large eggs beaten
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Italian dried seasoning mix
  • pinch of salt and pepper
  • 9-inch unbaked deep-dish pie shell
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese, vegetables of any kinds and cooked meats

Instructions

  1. Shred the block of cheddar and save some for the top before baking in the oven.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  3. Mix the cheese in flour( this keeps it from sinking)
  4. Place the cheese, eggs, milk, any additions, and seasonings in a medium-sized bowl then blend together.
  5. If using grated Parmesa,n sprinkle on top
  6. Sprinkle the top with more cheddar cheese. ( I also sprinkle it with more garlic powder)
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until set.
