Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies are one of our guilty pleasures.

Chocolate Chip Cookies are one of our all-time favorite cookies but with the addition of Red Velvet, they turn gourmet.

We enjoy Red Velvet Cake, and our recipe for Red Velvet Pancakes around Valentine's Day, the color is so pretty and just perfect.

Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies

Other Mix-In Suggestions:

  1. peanut butter chips
  2. mint chocolate chips
  3. toffee chips
  4. substitute chopped pretzels for nuts
  5. dried fruits like cranberries
  6. for Christmas, colors add chopped maraschino cherries and white chocolate chips
  7. white, milk, and dark chocolate chunks
  8. chopped peanut butter cups or another chopped candy you prefer
  9. mint-filled chocolate candies chopped
  10. chopped unwrapped caramels, pistachios, pecans, macadamia nuts, coconut
  11. pumpkin seeds for nut allergies
  12. cookies cant be left plain, rolled in cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, or frosted
  13. add coconut and chocolate chips

Tips

  • roll the cookies into balls by hand with very little powdered sugar or sifted flour
  • store these in airtight containers
  • cool completely before frosting or adding melted chocolate
  • use a lined cookie sheet or Silpat mat
  • cookies can be rolled in granulated sugar before baking instead of frosted or after baking rolled in powdered sugar
  • add some cinnamon in the frosting for more spice flavor
  • add raisins, nuts, chopped candy bars, craisins, coconut,
  • add funfetti, holiday sprinkles 
  • add mint chocolate chips or chopped candy bars
  • add white chocolate chips and maraschino cherries for the holidays
  • these cookies freeze in an airtight container unfrosted for up to 3 months thaw and frost

Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies

Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies

Red Velvet Chocolate Chip cookies made from scratch and very addicting in flavor

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2/3 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons red food coloring
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 bag white chocolate melts ( I used Wiltons for garnish) or use white chocolate chips 4 or 5 on each one
  • Garnish with sprinkles of candy-colored mixed non-pareils

Instructions

  1. Cream the sugars along with the butter in a heavy-duty mixer. This should take around 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Add the eggs, vanilla, red food coloring, and vinegar and mix for around 1 minute.
  3. Add all the dry ingredients except chips, and blend in the heavy-duty mixer just until all are combined.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Bake at 375 degrees preheated oven(12 to 15 minutes) on parchment paper dropping by spoonfuls at least 2 inches apart.
  6. You can melt the chocolate candy first if you prefer then dip them into it.
  7. Garnish with colored nonpareils.
