Mushroom Zucchini Quiche

This classic breakfast, lunch or dinner dish is making its comeback in trendy cafes and bakeries menus everywhere and we just love mixing and matching ingredients in our recipe it's so versatile!

Baked savory pies like this are great for any time of the day and can be pretty hardy depending on what you add to it.

We love our Mushroom Zucchini Quiche, however at times we add meats to it and a variety of vegetables to change it up a bit.

This quiche can be made crustless also, substitutes are limitless and we will give you all those sugestisons below.

This one was baked with a delicious flaky pie crust and filled with caloried ladened cream and cheese.

Our version of course is a bit Italianized as we put lots of fresh herbs and spices in it.

Originally quiche is one delicious cheese and cream-filled crusted pie and most popular in French cuisines.

Here is an adapted Italian version of how American Italian quiche came about.

What is Quiche?


It's a flaky crust, savory egg style custard, and baked to a golden perfection.

No matter what additions are in it, it's a perfect kind of pie and comfort food!

As I mentioned previously our quiche recipe is extremely versatile and can be adjusted to suit any picky eaters preference.

This is such a great starter appetizer also when hosting an elegant dinner party or a great addition to someone specials lunch box, perfect for back to school for the children child.

One more bonus is, quiche is delicious any time of the day it's served there is no wrong or right to a basic recipe.

Not A Mushroom Lover Try These

Make It Crustless If Watching Carbs!



Use all vegetables and make this crustless with no problem plus you can substitute the eggs with whites or egg beaters for cholesterol-conscious folks.


This can be made with just grated cheese and not loaded with melted cheeses also the recipe is basic, adapt away.


Either way with or without meat it's truly delicious!

Summer Vegetable Quiche


I love seasonal quiche and fall can be made with several additional vegetables like butternut diced cooked squash and a touch of cinnamon with mushrooms it's a delicious quiche also.


As I previously mentioned you can adapt the recipe to whatever you want in it any combination of suggestions from meats, vegetables, or seafood.


Mushroom Zucchini Quiche

Mushroom Zucchini Quiche

This is a delicious easy quiche made with mushrooms and zucchini and basic to be totally adapted to however you prefer it!

Ingredients

  • Pastry crust (or use a deep dish store-bought frozen pie shell)
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 7 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons ice water
  • Filling:
  • 4 eggs
  • 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms
  • 3/4 cup of shredded zucchini blotted dry
  • Note: see suggestions for substitutions amounts
  • 1 - 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or provolone (can be a blend)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or in a pinch half and half)
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
  • salt, and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon each of mixed Italian fresh herbs, basil, parsley
  • 3 tablespoons of Parmesano Reggiano grated cheese
  • pinch of oregano
  • pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Pastry Crust:
  2. Place the salt, flour, and butter into a food processor, and pulse until fine crumbs.
  3. Slowly add water to form a ball.
  4. Roll out to fit a 9-inch removable bottom quiche pan.
  5. Refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  6. In the meantime preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  7. Remove the pan for the refrigerator, either use pie weights or poke holes randomly into the crust.
  8. Bake for 15 to18 minutes (this will finish cooking with the filling.) set not browned.
  9. Filling:
  10. Beat the eggs until foamy and then add all the quiche ingredients together then fold in mushrooms and shredded blotted dry zucchini then set aside.
  11. Note: Any combinations of ingredients can go together however some vegetables retain high water liquid contents and should be sparingly used.
  12. IE: Tomatoes, eggplant, shredded zucchini, etc. blot dry with paper towels before proceeding.
  13. Fold any add-ins into your egg mixture.
  14. Spread dough to fit thinly in greased assorted style pans, IE: greased Quiche pans with removable bottoms, or you can also use cupcake pans or pie plates.
  15. Note: you can also sprinkle the crust with dried herbs and granulated garlic powder for more flavor.
  16. See previous notes above for crust: Roll out dough to fit into your preferred pan and pre-bake dough for 15 to 18 minutes at 350 degrees till set not browned.
  17. Take out the slightly baked shell and pour your quiche mixture into the crust.
  18. Sprinkle with more shredded cheese and grated cheese and bake on 400 degrees until browned and set in the middle.
  19. This can take anywhere from 40 to 55 minutes until the middle is set and the crust is golden brown.
  20. Let quiche rest 5 minutes before serving to cut easier.

Meat Lovers and Cheeses (Add 1/2 cup meat)

  • diced pepperoni

  • diced ham

  • If not using mozzarella use another kind you like:

  • mozzarella

    1. By using the 9 inch and deep dish it takes about an hour or until the middle is set. I usually slide a knife in the center to see if it comes out clean.
