These semi-homemade chocolate cheesecake bars are the most decadent and easy dessert squares you will ever make.

They're a moist cake-like rich cheesecake bar with this delicious buttery topping baked together on top of a cookie-cake crust.

The layers meld together to make the perfect chocolate cheesecake bars that will be your new indulgence.

Everyone raved about how they tasted like they were made from scratch and had no idea the crust was made with a cake mix.

My family is hooked on these bars and with my several topping suggestions below, you can change to a different flavored bar every time you bake these.

Moist Chocolate Cake



The cake mix is mixed up with eggs, flour, and butter that makes a rich moist crust and is so delicious.


We added some mini chocolate chips to the top to give it another layer of chocolate richness.


Everyone has their own ideas on what can go on top of these cookie bars so mix and match our topping suggestions below.

Other Topping Additions:

  1. peanut butter chips
  2. mint chocolate chips
  3. toffee chips
  4. substitute chopped pretzels for nuts
  5. not a coconut lover? add dried fruits like cranberries
  6. for Christmas, colors add chopped maraschino cherries and white chocolate chips
  7. white, milk, and dark chocolate chunks
  8. chopped peanut butter cups
  9. mint filled chocolate candies chopped
  10. chopped unwrapped caramels, macadamia nuts, coconut

Tips

  • cream cheese must be at room temperature
  • store these in airtight containers
  • cool completely before cutting them
  • use the toothpick method to ensure the middle is cooked
  • adjust the baking time for different pan usage
  • 13 x 9 baking pan, brownie pans must be at least 3 inches high so it doesn't overflow
  • spray parchment paper with cooking oil to avoid sticking

This is a delicious doctored cake mix with a creamy cheesecake layer. Easy recipe and taste like they're made from scratch!

Ingredients

  • Crust Ingredients:
  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix any brand
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 eggs 
  • 1 stick(1/2 cup) melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • Filling Ingredients:
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 - 8 - ounce brick of cream cheese full fat at room temperature
  • 2 - 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • Optional: mini chocolate chips or refer to the notes below

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Prepare a brownie-sized pan or 13 x 9 pan lined with oil sprayed parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Crust:
  4. Mix all the above ingredients in the crust ingredients list above to form a thick dough.
  5. Using a spatula or floured fingers, press into the bottom of the prepared pan and set aside.
  6. Filling:
  7. Beat the cream cheese with eggs, add powdered sugar and almond until the batter is nice and smooth around 4 minutes.
  8. Pour this mixture on top of the dough that has been set aside.
  9. Sprinkle the top randomly with mini chocolate chips.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees until the top is set and starting to brown.
  11. This took approximately 35 minutes depending on what pan you use.
  12. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
  13. Leftovers freeze perfectly and I store them in an airtight container. up to 3 months.
