Our Grilled Italian Style Mahi Mahi with Lemon Herbs is a quick and easy way to prepare fresh-caught seafood but don't worry you can use frozen-thawed fish also for this recipe.

Mahi-Mahi is one of the most perfect fresh-caught seafood because it holds up so well for grilling because of its firm texture and won't fall apart.

It is also has a very mild flavor and not a fishy strong taste and the perfect first seafood to try for those opposed to liking any kind of fish.

As a bonus, we included oven-baked, an air fryer method, and pan-fried for those who don't have an outdoor grill, so no problem our instructions provided alternatives.

This recipe is super simple because our lemon and herb spiced marinade really does all the work in preparing a flaky moist delicious mahi-mahi with little fuss and so amazing.

There are several ways you can prepare Mahi Mahi but this is our favorite with lemony zesty flavors, you may also like to try our flavorful coatings because this fish holds up any way you prepare it.

Living in Florida we have been pretty lucky to have caught had the pleasure to rent a boat and ocean fish for fresh seafood like this delicious mahi-mahi and have friends who also share their fresh catch with us.

With a few simple ingredients, this gourmet snook can be on your tables in around 30 minutes and will be a wonderful addition to your seafood recipe collection.

What Kind of Fish is Mahi Mahi?


Mahi Mahi is often referred to as a dolphinfish but it is not a dolphin.

This fabulous Mahi is a fish and dolphins are mammals so let's get that straight right off the bat.

Another name for this fish is called dorado, Spanish for gold, with very beautiful gold and green on its scales.

This dish is simply delicious perfection and you will soon be a fan of this light-tasting fabulous seafood.

Tips and Cooking Methods

  • always brush the grates with olive oil or use a cast-iron skillet to cook the fish in
  • always preheat the grill before adding the fish
  • remember fresh fish cooks quickly
  • do not overcook seafood use a meat thermometer fish internal temperature should be at 145 degrees
  • if you prefer serve the fish on a bed of cooked white rice or grilled vegetables
  • Other Cooking Methods:
  • baked:  place in a cast-iron skillet or baking pan butter or oil spray a cast-iron skillet, with lemon juice, then rest of the seasoning. Bake at 400 degrees testing the thickest part with a meat thermometer that the internal temperature reads 145 degrees
  • air fryer:  place in an ovenproof casserole dish at 425 degrees oil spray a baking dish and the top of the mahi-mahi with all the seasonings 6 to 8  minutes or until the fish's internal temperature reads 145 degrees serve with freshly squeezed lemon juice on top
  • pan-fried: saute on both sides for 5 minutes with all seasonings in a cast-iron skillet with butter or olive oil

As I mentioned previously, we had the pleasure of having our friend Jim have a fresh catch that he shared with us and he is an excellent fisherman here in Florida.


It's super easy to prepare this grilled Italian-style fish, on your gas outdoor grill or on an open fire campfire, but certainly in your own kitchen using one of our other cooking methods.

So use this recipe for all methods of cooking and all kinds of very firm seafood with a thicker flesh and meaty.

Easy grilled lemon Mahi Mahi is bursting with fresh lemon, herbs, and spices. A light meal and perfect on a bed of rice or grilled vegetables

Ingredients

  • Marinade
  • 1 lb Mahi Mahi fresh or frozen-thawed
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon zest
  • lemon slices enough for each piece
  • 1/2 teaspoon each parsley, dill, garlic powder, black pepper, paprika, basil, oregano, cayenne pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic (finely chopped or minced)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients of the marinade together in a bowl.
  2. Add in the pieces of Mahi Mahi.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for approximately 35 minutes.
  5. Heat the grill, brush with some olive oil and add the pieces of the fish.
  6. Top with slices of lemon and grill on each side till brown on both sides for around 5 minutes on each side.
  7. Serve on boiled white fluffy rice or grilled vegetables.
