Best Old Fashioned Cobbler Step By Step

  1. preheat the oven to 375 degrees
  2. place butter in a 13 x 9 baking pan to melt in the oven
  3. whisk together all dry ingredients in one bowl
  4. add milk and vanilla to another bowl
  5. mix the dry and wet ingredients together just until blended evenly
  6. pour into the melted buttered pan
  7. top with berries
  8. bake for 45 to 55 minutes

  • Use a deep baking pan
  • Using ripe fresh fruits always is the best choice
  • Always preheat the oven first to 375 degrees
  • Sweetened the berries with a coordinating jam warmed if you prefer
  • Keep any leftovers in the refrigerator
  • Gently stir berries in with the jam not to break the fruit
  • The cobbler is best served still warm

Old Fashioned Triple Berry Cobbler

This is a true homemade cobbler with the best ingredients available the old fashioned way.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter (this is the equivalent of 1 stick)
  • 2 cups (total) of an assortment of fresh blueberries, blackberries, and red raspberries
  • Note: you can use all of one kind of fruit any kind if you prefer to see notes below for suggestions
  • 1/3 cup warmed blueberry, blackberry, or red raspberry preserves, jam, or jelly This is to toss the fruit in
  • 1 cup flour all-purpose
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Optional serving suggestions: pureed triple berry fruits put through a food processer, vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Toss the fruit in a bowl with warmed jam, jelly, or preserves.
  3. In a 13 x 9 baking pan, add the butter and place in the oven to melt.
  4. In a large bowl whisk together all the dry ingredients.
  5. In another bowl mix together milk and vanilla.
  6. Combine the dry ingredients with the milk and just stir together to combine (you will have lumps)
  7. Pour this batter over the melted butter.
  8. Scatter the medley of berries on top of the batter.
  9. Bake in the preheated hot oven at 375 degrees until the middle is set around 45 to 50 minutes.
  10. Scoop into a bowl.
  11. Serve slightly warm for the best experience on this old-fashioned style cobbler with
  12. pureed fruit, ice cream, or whipped cream
