Slow Cooker Cocktail Weiners are the perfect little appetizer anytime but are always a hit at any party.

We used regular mini little smokies, but you can even use hotdogs cut up into small pieces, either way, these are a delicious little appetizer that even the kids will love.

These were very popular in the 1960s at many social gatherings and these retro recipes are still popular today.

Easy to make and can feed a hungry crowd economically.

Easy Cocktail Weiner Steps

  1. Purchase mini smokie weiner regular or cheese filled (or use cut-up hotdogs
  2. add them to a small slow cooker (or choose another cooking method IE stovetop or oven-baked)
  3. add all the ingredients listed in the recipe and place on
  4. high for1- 1/2 hours
  5. serve with little plastic spear picks or toothpicks off to the side of the slow cooker for easy access for your guests

Suggestions and Tips:


  • Use slow cooker liners for easy cleanup
  • regular or cheese-filled little mini smokies (or cut-up hotdogs of any brand or kind or even kielbasa)
  • canned cranberry jelly can be substituted for grape jelly
  • Place toothpick off to the side of the slow cooker for easy pick up when serving
  • Make a double batch, these go quickly
  • Use sausages, and mini meatballs for assortments of meat
  • For heat add a few tablespoons of hot sauce

Cooking Method Alternatives

  1. Oven: place in a greased casserole dish, add all ingredients, and bake at 400 degrees for around 25 to 30 minutes
  2. Stovetop: place all ingredients in a deep saucepan and bring to a slow simmer for around 10 to 15 minutes until the hotdogs are heated through

Little mini hotdogs or little smokies are a party pleaser that go way back to the 1960s.

Other delicious finger foods back then were popular like deviled eggs, meatballs in bourbon and cranberry sauce celery stuffed with cream cheese, and the still very popular nutty cheese balls.

Slow Cooker Cocktail Weiners

Mini little hotdogs in BBQ sauce are the best party appetizers everyone loves and these are made in a slow cooker
Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 1 H & 30 MTotal time: 1 H & 35 M

Ingredients

  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or use a homemade recipe)
  • 3/4 cup grape jelly (also for a tangy flavor use cranberry sauce in a can)
  • 2 (16-ounce) packages of mini weiners regular flavored or cheese stuff (or use any brand of hotdogs you prefer and cut them up into bite-sized pieces or kielbasa will work great also!
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1 small bottle of chili sauce
  • Note: If you would like to make a Homemade Barbecue Sauce Recipe follow the recipe by adding these ingredients below:
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • dash of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup prepared yellow mustard
  • a few twists of finely fresh cracked black pepper
  • Whisk all the above ingredients in a bowl and add 1 cup of homemade BBQ sauce to the slow cooker.

Instructions

  1. Add cooking oil spray to the slow cooker pot or line with a slow cooker bag.
  2. Place the jelly and BBQ sauce, mustard, chili sauce, and apple juice in the slow cooker pot and mix until evenly combined.
  3. Note: for the homemade recipe just mix all the ingredients listed in the slow cooker pot with the little smokies/or hotdogs with the grape jelly.
  4. Add the meat. Stir to combine evenly.
  5. Place the slow cooker on high for around 1 - 1/2 hours then set it to warm.
  6. Stir this occasionally to glaze and coat the meat.
