Fruit Galette

Saturday, July 17, 2021
This is a buttery single crust, free-form pie with a fruit filling and the crust folded partway over the top of the filling, French in origin called a galette.

This is an old-style open-faced pie using buttery pie crust with fresh summer fruits.

Typically a seasonal fruit dessert to include one or more additions of fruits; apple, berries such as strawberries or blueberries, pineapple, or stone fruits such as peaches, plums, mango, or cherries, or even figs.

We use the best of the season ripe cherries and peaches, all baked in this delicious butter crust.

The medley of fruits is a family favorite galette using bing fresh cherries, peaches, blueberries but the suggestions and combinations can be endless.

Each pie can always be a different kind and perfect making it in a muffin tin to satisfy everyone's favorite.

Don't miss my other fruit recipes like my Blueberry Crumble Bars, Biscuit Style Peach or Apple Dumpling Cobbler, or Strawberry Skillet Shortcake, all shouting summer delicious desserts with fresh fruits.

Shepherd's Pie or Cottage Pie

Friday, September 27, 2019
This easy fantastic all-in-one pan meal is called Shepherds Pie with lamb (or cottage pie made with beef topped with different vegetables like peas or corn and mashed potatoes smothered with cheese and topped with brown beer gravy that's how we like ours.

This dish just screams pure comfort food, full of perfectly seasoned lamb or beef has just the right amount of flavors that makes this casserole off-the-charts delicious.

I really love how it can be put together quickly if you cut some corners and purchase some store-bought mashed potatoes and jarred gravy then you can have it on the table in 25 minutes.

The gravy, of course, is a family favorite and is usually not served with shepherd's pie however we just love the beer brown gravy it just finishes off this dish nicely by pairing it with mashed potatoes.

Well on Italian meatloaf night, he took a slice of meatloaf and topped it with mashed potatoes and mashed corn on top of it.

We have changed out the vegetables from time to time also, if you're not a fan of corn substitute peas or mushrooms.

This is a basic recipe that can be adapted however you're used to having it in your favorite restaurants, we just love using ground lamb instead of beef.

Grandma's Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Recipe

Friday, June 3, 2016
Homemade strawberry rhubarb pie is the best and this is one of the easiest recipes with sweet strawberries paired with tart rhubarb and a hint of orange zest, baked in a lattice pastry crust.

Using some quick-cooking tapioca makes the best thickness in our pie recipe and that's a vintage old secret mom had for making the perfect filling.

We also have tried many other combinations of fruits that actually were a nice change and you can read those suggestions below if you're not a strawberry fan.

I seriously wasn't a fan of rhubarb any other way growing up, now this old-fashioned pie is a family favorite we grew up on because dad had a garden and grew both of these.

Of course, if you're not a fan of blueberry, we've also tried Bing cherries, raspberries, and even some mango as an addition you can check below for some other suggestions.

If you're in a hurry of course and don't want to make homemade everything from scratch you can use a store-bought pie crust you will need a top and bottom crust.

If you're a pie fan you may also like to try our No-Bake Pineapple Fluff Pie or scroll through our Pie Roundup of Recipes.

This recipe is easier than a regular pie especially if you just make a criss-cross lattice crust on top, or just top the pie with the second crust and poke holes on top.
