- 1 box of any chocolate cake mix
- 1 box of any chocolate fudge brownie mix
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup oil
- 1 1/4 cup water or if you want a mocha cake use leftover strong coffee for mocha flavored cake

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups of AP flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon red vinegar or white
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water, chilled
Instructions
- Cake Mix Doctored Chocolate Cake Recipe:
- Prepare a pan such as a bundt pan, cookie sheets, novelty-shaped pan or whatever you are planning to use by greasing or using parchment paper.
- This cake was made in a 16 x 10 sheet pan lined with parchment paper to be more like a Texas Sheet Cake
- In an extra-large bowl using an electric mixer, add the mixes, eggs, water or coffee, and oil.
- Beat until smooth, around 2 to 3 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Pour the batter into a prepared pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes for sheet cakes or longer for bundts and thicker cakes, around 35 to 40 minutes.
- Use the toothpick method in the middle for correct doneness.
- Cool and frost with your favorite homemade frosting or canned.
- Homemade Dark Chocolate Frosting Recipe
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup dark cocoa powder
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
- Beat together until smooth and creamy

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8 x 8 baking cake pan.
- Note: this cake, originally back in the 1940s, was all mixed in the same pan it's baked in, I don't do that. However, you are welcome to place the ingredients in the pan, adding water last, and mix it in the same pan.
- In a large bowl, sift all the dry ingredients.
- Add the vinegar, vanilla, and oil, stirring in the water last.
- Pour into the prepared pan. ( as stated above, you can also mix it in this pan and then just bake it)
- Bake at 350 degrees for around 25 minutes checking the center with a toothpick to ensure it's completely baked.
- Serve as it is, with whipped cream, or frost it with homemade chocolate frosting.
