This is a hollowed-out watermelon used as a bowl for assorted fruits. Perfect cut-out fruits to match an party theme,

Ingredients

  • Choose assorted fruits that match the holiday or party color theme.
  • You can add sugar to taste or a sugar-free sweetener, we leave the fruit plain as is and mixed together adding nothing else.
  • Tools: assorted miniature small-shaped appetizer cutters in various shapes, stars, leaves, anything you want to match the party theme or holiday, etc.
  • Choose fruits that can be sliced and cut into shapes
  • any melons IE: cantaloupe or honeydew watermelon or pineapple cut lengthwise are good choices
  • Apples, pears bananas will require being dipped into lemon juice to prevent browning.
  • Blueberries for Red, White, and Blue use blue grapes or blueberries
  • Strawberries when cutting the stems off I then take a knife and zig-zag the edge to make it look like a flower
  • Other Party Suggestions for Fruit bowls:
  • Any shaped appetizer small cookie cutters: hearts, stars, pumpkins, leaf shapes, or use a small paring knife, diamond-shaped, animal shapes, or any shapes you prefer. and themed to whatever holiday.
  • If you're an artist you can shape the fruit with a paring knife and cut the edges of the watermelon bowl in a zigzag edging.

Instructions

  1. On a cutting board lined with plastic, slice a large watermelon in half using a sharp knife.
  2. Once it cut in half cut one half into some long round slices so you can use the slices to make small cookie cutter or appetizer shapes.
  3. The other side can be hollowed out using a melon ball scoop and save those to refill the bowl as the bowl needs refilling.
  4. We used a star-shaped appetizer cutter for shaping cantaloupe and watermelon.
  5. For honeydew melon ball scoop and some half-moon shapes.
  6. Pineapple cubed. however, you can use these sliced lengthwise and cut-out shapes.
  7. Blueberries and blackberries left whole.
  8. Sliced the strawberries.
  9. Any leftovers, we stored in a container and refilled the watermelon bowl as needed.
