Hot Dog Chili

Saturday, July 11, 2020
I have been making this hot dog chili for years on the side at every outdoor cookout.

For those who love a great beanless chili dog, this is a mouth-watering delight and a copycat from my hometown Utica, New York.

We love this hearty topping, it's great on so many foods besides just hot dogs.

It makes a great topping for rice, pasta, and baked potatoes too!

This is sauteed with garlic and bell peppers that have been pureed in the food processor, the flavors are fabulous.

After you grill your hot dog, place it in the bun with this chili then heavily sprinkle it with sharp cheddar cheese and you have a ballpark home run for sure!

This is one of my all-time favorites when I serve my grilled hotdogs.

We love easy One Pan Recipes like our Merlot Chili and this Southwest Filling for Wraps which are two family favorites.

You can double the recipe and freeze some for another time to have it ready for the next cookout.

If you love Chili dogs, this is a copycat of my favorite place to eat them.

You can make them Coney Island in your own kitchens but these have a closer taste to my hometown in Central New York called Voss restaurant.

Fun Hot Dogs

I love a loaded hot dog they are such great fun to eat!

In Coney Island, this is a famous treat loaded with savory meat sauce if offered with many other toppings and a classic American "diner food".

Coney Island restaurants will just about offer this chili dog on every menu.

Because not everyone loves chili on their hot dogs, I always set up a food bar station with all the fixings on it on the side.

They can build their own hot dog with whatever they like.

Served with seasoned fries, salt, and vinegar chips, are a few of the favorite side dishes along with macaroni and cheese commonly asked for with these.

  • Note: There isn't any onion in mine because it gets stronger as the day goes by so this will taste fresh for up to 4 days and taste the same. You can always add some raw chopped onion on top of your hotdog if you want to get that flavor.

Chili Cheese Hot Dogs

If you want to leave the cheese off and add one of the many suggestions above, just build your chili dog the way your family likes it.

Like I said before, set up a chili cheese bar, add all the different toppings and let them have fun making it the way they love their dogs.

Plain or loaded, spicy, or sweet, there will be something for everyone!

These chili cheese dogs are quite flavorful.

The chili is sweet, tangy, and bold and you can even add a little kick to it with cayenne pepper, hot sauce, or use hot peppers on top.

Plain and simple maybe not so pretty or fancy but easy delicious and fun~!

  1. Hard to beat a good dawg. I come from a small town in WV where hot dogs are a religion and the many small hot dog shops guard their sauce recipe like it is the crown jewels. Yours sounds good.
