Cannoli Ice Cream

Tuesday, July 7, 2015
Cannoli ice cream is one of those wow factors on that first taste.

It's rich, creamy and so different tasting than any other flavored ice cream you may have had.

Being a huge cannoli fan, experimenting with flavors is what I love to do to get them right.

There are few things that make the characteristics of an Italian cannoli flavor, Marsala wine and hint of cinnamon with that crunchy shell.

I am pretty sure this recipe hits it out of the park in flavors.

The family loves how this all works to give you the best experience and taste of a real Italian pastry in a frozen confection!

Nothing like the phony supermarket brands, this is authentic Italian cannoli flavors made with with the richness and creaminess of Ricotta cheese!

I waited patiently to ever post this recipe until the verdict of my Italian critics came in.

Well, the words bellissima, meraviglioso, favoloso (beautiful, fabulous, wonderful).

I'm a happy girl!

Sunday Dinners and Dessert

This cannoli ice cream is usually served after our big Italian dinner.

We love Sunday family day with Traditional Sunday Sauce, Meatballs baked cavatelli pasta, and of course, we always save room for dessert.

Usually, dessert ends with our favorite Italian Lemon Ice, but this one is a favorite also.

On a hot summer day in July, this certainly is the ice cream of choice here.

It's bursting with great flavors, subtle, not too sweet and the perfect Italian dessert after that big meal!

It sure is easier than making the regular pastry, which I make at Easter time usually, Italian Cannoli are delicious period!

The garnish made it even more authentic in flavors with that addition of brushed Marsala on it and butter.

No Ice Maker No PROBLEM!

Well, this is one tool I love for the creaminess, is the ice maker, it provides and texture, however, not to worry, no ice maker no problem!

Place the mixture in a deep ice cream freezer-safe container and freeze for 45 minutes.

As it begins to freeze near the edges, remove it from the freezer and stir vigorously with a spatula or

if you have a handheld mixer or blender, the creamier and less grainy the better.

Return to the freezer.

Continue to check the mixture every 30 minutes, stirring vigorously as it’s freezing.

Repeat this process for 2 to 3 hours, or until frozen.

Very Little Cooking Needed

This is really not cooked!

The mixture needs to be warmed just until combined and the warming makes it evenly combined.

No boiling or cooking, just warm.

Make sure this is your first step.

You're on your way to making the most decadent delicious Italian Cannoli Ice Cream!

Cannoli Suggestions

I love the way this ice cream taste, my garnish is really an option.

Of course, the crunch gives it that unique touch of the real cannoli shell or of course you can buy cannoli shells also and use those instead,  for that true experience.

I just happened to have the sugar ice cream cones on hand and it was a nice touch, after all, it is ice cream right?

You could also use waffle cones, or just eat this plain!

You can adapt this recipe any way you like, if you aren't a fan of alcohol, add more vanilla or even an imitation rum flavoring.

Full fat Ricotta and heavy cream really make the ice cream perfected, if you do try and make a lower calorie ice cream, the same results in flavors will be compromised, but hey if you're ok with that, adapt away!

Make it your own recipe, be creative and enjoy this summer treat anyway you like it

My kids just love topping this with warmed hot fudge sauce!
