Prosciutto Asparagus Spirals are delicious asparagus spears wrapped in puff pastry filled with cream cheese, and prosciutto turned into a super-easy elegant appetizer for any meal.


I love stocking up on asparagus when I see a sale and trying easy recipes on how to make it different every time, this is a keeper and one of our favorites.


If you like making tasty impressive appetizers, this one will fly off your serving platter first even for non-asparagus eaters.


Everyone loves the flaky crunchy pastry on the outside sprinkles with herbs then topped with some cheese, which makes these totally addicting in flavor.


This is one of those love-hate relationship vegetables but making this simple recipe just may get that picky eater asparagus this way is great!


These take very little time to make will be tasty with any dish you serve at any holiday or entertaining get-together.

They go with any meal you prepare and super simple to make and look like they came from a 5-star restaurant and very impressive.

Tips

  • don't leave the dough unattended it will dry out so work quickly with it while it's still cold
  • don't handle the dough too much or the pastry will not be light and flaky 
  • don't cut the dough back and forth, a pizza cutter works great to cut straight strips or use a very sharp knife
  • you can make these ahead of time, refrigerate them covered and bake them later
  • you can also bake them, cool, freeze them on a cookie sheet then place them in a covered container for another time and just reheat them
  • in a pinch, you can use refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • use black forest ham. roast beef thin, or another cold cut meat you like in place of the prosciutto

  • puff pastry sheets
  • whipped cream cheese or regular softened
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Italian fresh herbs or Italian seasoning 
  • granulated garlic powder
  • salt, pepper to taste
  • 8 slices prosciutto or thinly sliced deli capicola (Italian hot ham)
  • asparagus spears, trimmed
  • Optional: a pinch of cayenne pepper

Other Additions and Suggestions

  • grated lemon zest on top
  • sprinkle with toasted almonds or sesame seeds
  • add chopped fresh mint, basil, and parsley to the cream cheese
  • add cooked bacon crumbled to the cream cheese 
  • drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice with Italian seasoning after cooked
  • sprinkle with red pepper flakes and mozzarella cheese 2 minutes before baking time is over for a cheesy spicy topping
  • Note: try other vegetables with the same ingredients like zucchini sticks or broccoli spears

Easy Asparagus Appetizers



Even though I love this asparagus wrapped in flaky pastry, it's a basic recipe you can use for any vegetable you prefer.


The flavors are great with just about any sturdy vegetable that can be wrapped and not get soggy.


Some of my other favorites to use are zucchini sticks or cauliflower, or broccoli florets sliced in half, I am sure you will get creative.

These are easy asparagus appetizers made with puff pastry dough filled with cheese and Italian ham, The appetizers impressive and elegant to serve.

Ingredients

  • 1 package(17.3 ounces) puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 6 tablespoons whipped cheese
  • 2 tablespoon Pecorino Romano mixed with Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, basil, dill, and a pinch of dried oregano, (or use Italian seasoning)
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
  • salt, pepper to taste
  • 8 slices prosciutto or thinly sliced deli capicola (Italian hot ham)
  • 30 medium asparagus spears, trimmed
  • a pinch of cayenne pepper, dried Italian seasoning
  • 2 baking sheets
  • olive oil, cooking spray, or use parchment paper
  • Optional Garnishes before baking:
  • Sprinkle very lightly on top with black pepper, Pecorino grated cheese, Italian dried seasoning, and granulated garlic powder evenly before baking.
  • a pinch of cayenne pepper, dried Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Prepare two baking sheets with parchment paper or brush with olive oil.
  3. Trim and clean asparagus
  4. Mix the cream cheese spread with cheese herbs or seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Roll out the two doughs, spread each with the cheese spread, add the Proscuitto or ham.
  6. Cut into 15 strips for each dough.
  7. Make a twist formation on each asparagus stalk.
  8. Sprinkle the top with black pepper, grated cheese, and granulated garlic powder evenly.
  9. Bake seam side down for 15 minutes or until pastries are golden brown.
  10. To reheat wrap in oil spray foil and pop in the oven for a few minutes or air fryer for 2 minutes.
