Tips for Making Berry Crumbles

  • Use a mix of berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries) for the best flavor
  • If using frozen fruit, do not thaw to avoid excess liquid
  • Add a little cornstarch to thicken the filling
  • Taste your berries first—adjust sugar depending on sweetness
  • Use cold butter for a perfectly crumbly topping
  • Don’t overmix the crumble—keep it slightly chunky
  • Bake until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling
  • Let it rest for 10–15 minutes before serving to set the juices
  • Make sure the butter is cold
  • I prefer to set the crumble in the refrigerator until ready to top the berries to keep cold
  • Baking time will vary depending on the pan that can be used
  • This crumble tastes the best warm and on the first day (reheat in the microwave for 11 minutes)
  • Cube the butter first before adding to the mixture for the best results
  • If using frozen berries, make sure you blot off any ice with paper towels first
  • Quick oats or old-fashioned oats can be used in this recipe
  • Any fresh fruits you prefer can be substituted for blueberries. See the list below
