Tips for Making the Best Baked Italian Breaded Pork Chops

  1. Do not overbake chops. Use an instant-read meat thermometer. Cover the first 10 minutes, then uncover the pork, which needs to be cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees
  2. For spicy, add some cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the milk mixture
  3. Use apple juice, wine, or chicken broth for moisture
  4. Boneless or bone-in chops are fine to use
  5. Many cooks achieve the best results by baking the pork chops on a pan with a rack and lightly spraying them with cooking oil. This allows heat to circulate around the breading, helping it crisp like fried pork chops without the added grease.
  6. Leftover breaded baked pork chops make fantastic sandwiches the next day. Serve them on toasted rolls with lettuce, tomato, and a smear of honey mustard or garlic aioli for a quick lunch.

Alternative Cooking Methods

  • Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F and allow it to preheat for about 3–5 minutes. Bread the pork chops as directed in the recipe using flour, egg wash, and seasoned breadcrumbs. Spray both sides of the pork chops lightly with cooking spray or brush with a small amount of oil. This helps the breading crisp. Place pork chops in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket to allow air circulation. Air fry for 10–14 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking. Pork chops are done when they reach an internal temperature of 145°F, and the breading is golden and crisp. Let the pork chops rest for about 3 minutes before serving so the juices redistribute
  • Classic Pan-Fried Breaded Pork Chops: Pour about ½ inch of oil into a large skillet. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F. Coat pork chops in flour, dip in egg wash, then press into seasoned breadcrumbs or panko. Carefully place pork chops into the hot oil without overcrowding the pan. Fry for about 4–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Pork chops should reach 145°F internally. Remove pork chops and place on a plate lined with paper towels or a wire rack. Allow pork chops to rest for 3 minutes before serving.
